Services

  • Develop concepts and ideas into workable glassware designs.
  • Produce glassware from drawings, sketches or prototypes. Modifications are easily accommodated.
  • Repair or alter existing glassware.

Capabilities

The shop works with borosilicate (Pyrex) and quartz ranging from 2-180mm OD diameters, and offers drilling, cutting, grinding, surfacing, cleaning, silvering, and vacuum sealing.

Turnaround

Jobs are completed on a first-come, first-served basis. Exceptions may be made for repairs critical to an ongoing research project, and every effort will be made to meet deadlines.

Materials

The Glass Shop supplies tubing. Researchers must provide all other required materials (e.g., ground glass joints, stopcocks, flasks, etc.). Special items can be ordered by the shop on your behalf.

Before You Drop Off

All glassware brought in for repair must be thoroughly cleaned beforehand. If you would not eat from it then don't expect me to want to blow into it.

Payment

The Glass Shop accepts intramurals with a university account number — no cash transactions.  Please feel free to stop in or call ahead.
