Steps:
- Create on online account via the Office of Admissions (link below).
- Before you start your application, please have the following documents available:
- Electronic copy of your transcripts
- Copies of your GRE scores (GRE is optional)
- Copies of English proficiency scores such as TOEFL, IELTS, or Pearson Test (International applicants only)
- CV or resume
- Contact information for three references to provide letters of recommendation

We STRONGLY encourage you to complete your application in October-December, with November being the ideal time. It is beneficial to apply early!
Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of reference on official letterhead stationery are required from research supervisors, faculty instructors and/or advisors. Once you submit your application, an email will be sent to your recommenders. They will be added to your application once they are received.
Transcripts
The list of courses taken and grades received must be presented. International transcripts also need a copy in English. You can attach an electronic copy of your unofficial (student copy) transcripts to the application, but official transcripts will be required before enrolling in classes.
Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)
The Department of Chemistry is waiving the requirement for the General Test scores. If you have completed the exam, you can attach an electronic copy of your score to the application. You may be able to access your scores on line. Please visit www.ets.org for more information.
English Language Test
Non-citizens must take either the TOEFL or IELTS examinations; information about IELTS is available at www.ielts.org. The minimum scores for those are: 89 on the TOEFL iBT (570 by paper) or an IELTS score of 6.5.
We also accept the Pearson Test of English (Academic). The minimum score is 60 for the Pearson.
The department HIGHLY RECOMMENDS taking the iBT. You can attach an electronic copy of your score to the application. If you took the iBT, you can get a copy of your scores by logging into the ETS web page at www.ets.org and following the links to the TOEFL page.
CV or Resume
Please attach a copy of your CV or Resume to the application.
