In August 2024, Dr. Yuan Zhang joined our department as an assistant professor in organic chemistry.
Yuan earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago under the mentorship of Prof. Scott Snyder and completed his postdoctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the group of Prof. Alison Wendlandt.
Research in the Zhang Lab will focus on developing innovative synthetic strategies and methods to streamline access to bioactive chemical structures. His program will integrate advanced organic chemistry concepts and technologies to provide students with expertise in reaction development, mechanistic study, and multistep synthesis of complex molecules.
Yuan is enthusiastic about his new role at Iowa State University and looks forward to collaborating with motivated students and supportive colleagues to tackle important and challenging scientific problems.
