Two Undergraduates Attended the National Diversity in STEM Conference 2024

Ana Sanchez-Downing and Sithmi Hewage both recently attended the National Diversity in STEM Conference 2024. The conference had around 1,100 presenters, with nearly 100 of those being Chemistry related.

Ana presented her summer research from the Huang and Qi groups here at Iowa State University and Ames National Laboratory. During her presentation, she talked about the investigations of the role of pore size and channels in modified mesoporous carbon for the electro chemical reduction of dilute carbon dioxide.

Sithmi presented on her research in the Anderson Lab here at Iowa State University. Her research involved studying the role of ionic liquids in facilitating DNA extraction from milligram masses of plant issues. At the conference, Sithmi was also honored with the award for Outstanding Research Presentation in Analytical Chemistry at the conferences award ceremony.
