Abstract: TBA

Bio: Daniel Hummer is an Associate Professor at Southern Illinois University specializing in mineralogy, crystallography, and geochemistry. His interdisciplinary research seeks to understand how minerals form, why particular crystal structures are stable under specific conditions, and how Earth developed its remarkable diversity of mineral species. He uses approaches ranging from crystallization experiments and laboratory measurements to molecular modeling, field work, and analysis of large mineralogical datasets. Hummer earned B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Geology from Iowa State University in 2004 and a Ph.D. in Geoscience from Penn State University in 2010. Before joining Southern Illinois University, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Carnegie Institution for Science and UCLA. [faculty.siu.edu]
