Bio: Devarajan (Dave) Thirumalai is the Marvin K. Collie-Welch Regents Chair in Chemistry at The University of Texas at Austin and a leading theoretical biophysicist whose research spans the interfaces of chemistry, physics, and biology. His work has made fundamental contributions to our understanding of protein and RNA folding, molecular machines, chromosome organization, and complex biological systems using concepts from statistical physics and computational modeling. He earned his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Minnesota and completed postdoctoral training at Columbia University before joining the faculty at the University of Maryland, where he founded the Biophysics Program. Dr. Thirumalai has received numerous honors, including the ACS Theoretical Chemistry Award, the Irving Langmuir Prize in Chemical Physics, and election as a Fellow of both the Biophysical Society and the American Physical Society.
