Pizza with Dr. Lisa Balbes (RSVP Required)

Oct 10, 2024 - 5:30 PM
to , -

Join Dr. Balbes for an informal pizza dinner and Q&A regarding career planning in the physical sciences. You are invited to join Lisa Balbes for dinner. RSVP is required – and the deadline for the RSVP is Oct 9 at noon. In your positive RSVP response, indicate any dietary restrictions and/or preferences. This dinner will be provided free of charge (due to the generosity of the Ames Local Section of the ACS). This is a great chance for you to ask questions of a true expert in chemistry careers – especially those that are off of the beaten path. Lisa has written a great book on nontraditional career paths for folks who have been trained as chemists and has spoken to thousands of scientists about careers in chemistry and related fields. She is an excellent speaker and is easy to talk to.

Headshot of Lisa Balbes

Bio: Lisa M. Balbes has been an independent consultant for over 25 years. A traditional resume is available, as well as a publication list and list of awards she has won. Recent projects include scientific writing, web site development and consulting. She has a professional profile on LinkedIn.com, and has been mentioned in the popular press. She does volunteer work for a number of professional and charitable organizations, and in her spare time practices all types of needlework, and haunts St Louis Area needlework shops. She also has two children. She is the current keeper of the Troop 352 Patch Blanket. One current quest is to find missing classmates from the Kirkwood High School class of 1981, where she was Lisa Marie Rosenberger. If you are one, or know one, please contact her. Mark Balbes provides technical and programming support, and Miles the Office Rabbit provided paper shredding and comic relief. That job has now been taken over by Caesar and Octavia.
