SUMMARY:Chemistry of Novel Pnictide Materials
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Kirill Kovnir\, Iowa State University &amp\; US DOE Ames La
boratory\n\nPnictogens\, P\, As\, and Sb are capable to form extended poly
atomic fragments thus mimicking the chemical diversity of carbon. The stru
cture and properties of metal pnictides are controlled by the electron cou
nt and size of metal atoms. Kovnir group explored structural design and sy
nthesis of novel pnictides for several energy-related applications\, such
as thermoelectric energy conversion\, electrocatalyst for water splitting\
, and non-linear optical materials. Contrary to alloys\, metal pnictides e
xhibit strong directional covalent bonding leading to unique properties\,
which can be rationally tuned by adjusting concentration and electronegati
vities of constituent elements.\n\nMore information at: https://www.chem.i
