Ph.D. program in Chemistry (with a specialization in chemical education). Investigation of students' understanding of electrochemistry, electronegativity, polarity, and chemical bonding using the science writing heuristic, inquiry, and computer simulations.

January, 1999 - August, 2001. James received his Ph.D. in Chemistry (with a specialization in chemical education). He is now a post-doctoral student working with Dr. Arlene Russell. He is investigating using the science writing heuristic with Molecular Science's Calibrated Peer Review. HE is also involved with UCLA's teacher education program.

March 1997- August, 2000. M.S. degree in curriculum and instruction: science education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Evaluating the interactions of student pairs exhibit while wokring through the electrochemistry CD, student testing, and analysis of software. Co-major Professors: Dr. Tom Andre and Dr. Brain Hand. Steve Nugent is currenlty a graduate student in the School of Pharmancy, Washington University, St. Louis, MO.

March, 1997 - August, 1999. M.S. degree in curriculumand instruction: science education. Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Qualitative research on students' perceptions of how batteries work. Co-major professor: Dr. Tom Andre. Eun-Mi is working with Dr. Andre on her Ph.D. in currcilum and instruction.

January, 1994 - August 1996. Received his Ph.D. in Chemistry (with a specialization in chemical education). He is now an Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA

August, 1990 - May, 1997. Received his Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction: science education. He is now an Assistant Professor, Department of Science, Gateway Community College, New Haven, CT.

May, 1996 - February, 1997. Now working for a computer software company in California.

January, 1999 - current. Andy is owrking with Macromedia's Dreamweaver and Director to create interactive simulations in acid-base equilibria.

January, 1995 - May, 1998. Scanning 35 mm images and touching-up and creating digital images using Photoshop. Creating and developing computer animations for electrochemistry, acid-base equilibira, equilibrium, and kinetics projects. Research report has been written and is available.

January, 1996 - May, 1998. Chem 399. Development of computer animations to illustrate intermolecular forces for introductory chemistry courses. Updating and revising current webpages for the Iowa General Chemistry Network.

August, 1995 - May, 1996. Chem 399. Development of a multimedia instructional lesson on how a FT-IR works and how to operate a FT-IR. Writing story boards so that a computer programmer and computer illustrator from Engineering Animation, Inc. can develop software. Evaluation of the effectiveness of this approach by comparing students who use the software to students who receive traditional instruction about the FT-IR. Topic: FT-IR.

January, 1996 - May, 1996. Chem 399. Development of computer animations for instructional multimedia presentations. Topic: Kinetics and Acid-Base Equilibria.
August, 1994 - December, 1994. Chem 299. Created computer animated sequences for use in general chemistry courses and lectures using a Mac IIvx, Aldus FreeHand, and MacroMedia Director software. Topic: kinetics and acid-base equilibria.

August, 1994 - July, 1995. Chem 299 and Chem 399. Created computer animated sequences for use in general chemistry courses and lectures using a Mac IIvx, Aldus FreeHand, and MacroMedia Director software. Topic: electrochemical cells, electrolysis, kinetics.

January, 1992 - May, 1992. Chem 299. Worked with STATVIEW II to help create a data base of student information for the electrochemistry software project and for the Science Bound project. The data entered formed part of the statistical analysis of these projects.

January, 1992- May, 1992 Chem 399. Created computer animated sequences for use in general chemistry courses and lectures using a Mac IIci and MacroMind Director software. Her topics were colligative properties and kinetics.
