James H. Espenson, distinguished professor of Liberal Arts and
Sciences, received his B.S. from the California Institute of
Technology in 1958 and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin
in 1962. Following postdoctoral work at Stanford University, he
joined the faculty at Iowa State. He has received the John A.
Wilkinson award for excellence in teaching, an award from the
Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and is a fellow of the American
Association for the Advancement of Science. He has served as a
member of the executive committee and as a councilor for the
American Chemical Society Division of Inorganic Chemistry. Dr.
Espenson is the winner of the American Chemical Society Award for
Distinguished Service in the Advancement of Inorganic Chemistry for
2004.
