Overview of the ISU Facillities in the 18th BCCE

Iowa State University has a large campus with the main academic buildings spread out over a three mile square area. The campus of ISU is similar in size to the campus of the University of California - Davis which served as the host for the 12th BCCE. There will be four campus areas involved in the 18th BCCE: the Iowa State Center (Scheman, CY Stephens, & Hilton); Maple-Willow-Larch Dorms; Frederiksen Court Apartments; and the science buildings (Gilman Hall, Physics, Molecular Biology, Science I, and Science II) located on the north central part of campus.

Scheman Conference Center will serve as the main hub for the 18th BCCE. Scheman Conference Center has a 400 seat auditorium, an atrium, food service, registration desk, and meeting rooms on two floors. Scheman is located directly across the street from the Maple-Willow-Larch Dorm Complex. There will be free parking available to all conference participants within a short walk of Scheman. Here is what will take place in Scheman:

  • 40% of the symposia sessions
  • special presentations in Benton Auditorium
  • all of the poster sessions
  • the Exhibits
  • the 18th BCCE Registration Desk and Conference Problem Solving Desk
  • computers with Internet connections
  • food and drink service, sponsored by the Exhibitors, will be located in the exhibit area. Maple-Willow-Larch Dorm Complex

Housing for 1,500 in three air-conditioned buildings clustered together. Maple was remodeled in 1999 and has all extra nice rooms. The common dining hall has seating for 650. We hope you choose the on-campus meal plan so that you can interact with as many conference participants during meals as possible. There are nooks and crannies in the dining hall for groups to meet during meals. The dining hall staff is experienced in serving adults attending conferences. The food service staff at ISU take special pride in preparing quality meals for students and conference attendees. Several special theme meals are being planned. Vegetarian and Vegan meals will be carefully planned for each setting. The 18th BCCE Housing Registration Desk will be located in the commons area. Lounges, meeting rooms, a PC and a Mac computer lab. Reasonable rates. Free parking adjacent to the dorm complex is available for conference participants choosing on-campus dorm accomodations.
