18th BCCE On-line abstract submission system is ready!

This page has been up-dated on: February 24, 2004

Web Master Professor John Gelder, Department of Chemistry, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK and his student, Kirk, have programmed this on-line abstract submission system using a PHP MySQL server and data base. Friends of the organizing committee (the 18th BCCE committee) have done a trial run of this system. This is a new system. It is not perfect. If you experience any problems, please e-mail John Gelder at jgelder@okstate.edu.

Rules for Presenting Professional Work at the 18th BCCE. You may personally present three papers, or two papers and one poster, or one paper and two posters, or three posters at the 18th BCCE (Rule of Three). If you receive more than three invitations by the symposia organizers to present a paper, you will need to decide which three you will accept. Your name may be listed as a co-author on as many papers or posters as you and your co-authors care to submit. You may present as many workshops as you care to organize and present. An exhibitor may present one paper, one poster, or one workshop.

***********

The following is a message for presenters. We would like to TRY and institute a new procedure for the BCCE's.

For each symposium, we will have two conference-supplied computers connected to a multi-sync projector. This computer will be a Mac a Dell or a Gateway computer and it will have Microsoft PowerPoint presentation software installed. All presentations for that symposium will be loaded on that computer by conference staff four days prior to Sunday, July 18, 2004. If you can not FTP us your presentation, plan to bring your presentation to the conference on a CD or USB microdrive (Nomad, Lexar JumpDrive, etc.). Have all of your files you used to create your presentation on your USB microdrive. We encourage all presenters to test their presentation on a computer, different than the one where it was created, to insure that all necessary images are contained in their file. We will notify presenters how to submit their presentations to the conference presentation system prior to the start of the conference. ALL POWER POINT FILES must end with ".ppt", i.e. xxxxx.ppt. Presenters who require software other than Microsoft PowerPoint should contact bcce-support@iastate.edu with their requirements. We will try to have an internet (www) connection for symposia that need it. If you need to submit a large number of files or one file that is huge, contact us about sending a CD.

Rules for Submitting an Abstract to the 18th BCCE.

The deadline for submitting invited abstracts to a listed symposia at the 18th BCCE has passed.

If you are planning on submitting an abstract to the 18th BCCE, you can do the symposum organizer(s) and the 18th BCCE program chairs a big favor by submitting your abstract before the next deadline. Due to the number of abstracts already submitted, some symposia have reached or exceeded a practical limit and some are nearing their limit. Some symposia have not recieved a viable number of abstracts. Symposia organzers are already reviewing the abstracts that have been submitted to their symposium. In the cases for symposia that have received an excessive number of abstracts, the symposia organizers must decide which abstracts will be presented at their symposium. The criteria for selection involves three factors: appropriate content for the symposium, quality of the abstract, date & time the abstract was submitted. We encourage chemical educators to present their work at the 18th BCCE. The 18th BCCE program committee will make every attempt to ensure your presentation has an appropriate forum.

If you are submitting an abstract as a contributed paper to one of the listed symposia or to the "General Papers" symposium or "Posters" section, the deadline is Monday February 16, 2004, 11:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. This is a firm deadline. This deadline has passed.

The 18th BCCE program committee will be meeting in Ames, Iowa March 3 -6, 2004 to assign days, times, and rooms to each symposium. The program committee needs to know before this meeting if a symposium is a half-day, full day, 1.5 day, or two day symposium. The number of papers submitted to each symposium helps us make this decision.

You will need to select a symposium from the list of symposia in order to submit an abstract. Upon submittion of your abstract, an e-mail message will be sent to the individual whose e-mail address is submitted as part of the abstract form. This e-mail message will contain a BCCE abstract code #. Be sure to write this code # down. You will need it. If the abstract has co-authors, it is your responsibility to inform your co-authors that the abstract was submitted. Submission of an abstract does not gaurantee that your abstract will be accepted to the symposium you submitted it to. The symposium organizers and the 18th BCCE program chairs, will make a decision about the disposition of all abstracts. The symposium organizer will contact you if your abstract is accepted to his or her symposium. We anticipate the symposium chairs (for one of the listed symposia) will notify you by Monday, February 16, 2004. If you are submitting an abstract to the "General Papers" symposium or "Posters" section, you will be notified if your abstract is accepted by March 1, 2004.
