ISU Cross-Country Course and 4K and 8K Cross-Country Race

Runners can enjoy training on Iowa State University's NCAA National Cross-Country Championship Course. The course offers a challenge to runners, with various loops, paths and hills. The northern part of the course has the hills, while the southern part of the course is flat. This well marked course features several bridges that cross-over a creek, shaded and sunny sections. The course is self-contained, there are no roads or traffic, making your run safe and relaxing.
Runners can sign-up for the 8K (7:00 am) and or 4K (8:00 am) cross-country race and fun run, which will occur on the ISU cross-country course on Sunday, July 18, 2004. Race Commissioner: Joe Blunk 515.232.6746 (www.iowagames.org).

We are running in the Iowa Games (Iowa Summer Games URL click here)8.0 K and 4.0 K cross-country race and fun run.

The cross-country course and track are located in the ISU Southwestern Athletic Complex. The cross-country course start is located on the corner of Mortenson Parkway and State Avenue. Near the white and red large "ISU Cross-Country" display (see image below). Tom Greenbowe rates this course as moderate to difficult, but an excellent to course to run. Steeper hills than you expect for Iowa. The course is 98% grass. The grass on the course may be wet in the morning. Runners can expect to add 30-45 seconds per mile to their pace compared to a road race. In Tom's opinion, all of the mile markers seem 3-4 meters longer than necessary. Our sugestion is that you run through the course the day before the race. Once around the outermost loop is 2.0 miles.

The course is a 20-25 minute jog from the Maple-Willow-Larch dorms. Van shuttle service for 18th BCCE runners will be provided from Frederiksen Court and MWL dorms to the cross-country course on Sunday morning starting at 6:00 AM. Pre-registration for each race is $15.00. DEADLINE: Signed entry form and check postmarked by Wed., June 30, 2004. Registration for the fun run and race can be done in advanceby downloading the entry form (a PDF file, Adobe Acrobat Reader required) the Iowa Games web site or on-site the morning of the race. On-site race registration is near the start of the race on the corner of Mortenson Parkway and State Avenue. On-site registration for one race is $15.00, $30.00 for both races.

All runners are eligible for the usual age appropriae and gender appropriate Gold, Silver, and Bonze medals. All runners who pre-register will recieve an Iowa Games/18th BCCE t-shirt. With our 18th BCCE runners and the Iowa runners, Tom Greenbowe estimates there will be about 150 runners in the 4.0 K race and about 100 runners in the 8.0 K race.
